I have a field referencing  a string field containing a string of 21 characters. I was surprised to see that the field was shortened to 17 char. + 3 additional dots (=> I loose 4 characters). Maybe I made a mistake somewhere,  maybe not?

I can manage to see the full string using represent function, but with this turnaround, I cannot export the field into excel properly... and I couldn't find how to unable or control the shortening process.

I guess there is a parameter somewhere either in the field definition or somewhere else???

I think it would be fine to add this point to the document dealing with field definition.
